Protestantism In Light Of Orthodoxy

This lesson is about Protestantism and why, from the perspective of Orthodoxy, it is lacking essential elements only found in the Apostolic Church.

This is not an attack on Protestantism. However, it is merely a candid, biblically founded explanation as to why non-Apostolic Churches are lacking, according to the parameters set forth by Christ and His Apostles.

Books Used In The Church

This lesson begins by describing why we use books and pre-prescribed words during worship.

Then the lesson goes on to give examples of various sorts of books used, such as the Psalmody, the Agpeya, the Synaxarium, the Kamaterious/Lectionary, etc.
God’s Will Vs. What God Permits

This lesson delves into answering the question, “why do ‘bad’ things happen?” To start off on a happy note, there are first some “Bible Trivia” questions, unrelated to the topic, to entertain the students.

Then, the lesson distinguishes between God’s punishment versus His justice. Next, it discusses God’s discipline, and tries to make it clear that not all that seems “bad” is actually “bad.” Then we read what Pope Shenouda III writes on the topic, discuss free will and natural law as the reason for most calamity, and then speak of God as our refuge.
Hindrance To Prayers

Many of the quotes for this lesson are derived from the book “Orthodox Prayer Life” by Father Matthew the Poor (Matta el Maskeen).

The lesson focuses on the question: “what is prayer?”

Then the opposite question is examined: “what is not considered as prayer?”

Finally, hindrances to prayer are discussed in detail.
Beauty of the Orthodox Creed

“For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” - Rom. 10:10

This lesson introduces the Orthodox Creed by examining the meaning of “Creed,” discussing how the Church gave us the Creed, why we teach the Creed and why we should learn it, and examining when we recite the Creed.

Then, the lesson follows the text of the Creed and provides insight from the Church Fathers and Pope Shenouda about the significance and meaning of the words.
Ecumenical Councils, Nicea Emphasized

This lesson focuses on the Council of Nicea. This is not your regular old Sunday School Lesson about the Councils.

This is the Council of Nicea like you have NEVER EVER heard or known it before, bringing the council to life.
